RED temperaments are, out of four human temperaments, the ones most accused of being “emotionless!” REDS accomplish much in this life! If they would only slow down a bit and smell the proverbial roses- they might show an emotion or two, and become accessible.
The RED temperament is smart, strong and focused. REDS are the presidents of companies and governments. They are CEOs, CEFs, CFOs and CEGs. (You get my point)REDS are also brash, aloof, abrasive, gruff, bossy, always right and uninvolved…and, with a loud temper or short fuse.
If you have RED in your temperament, you are blessed with amazing leadership qualities and enough energy to succeed at whatever you attempt.
REDS set world records. REDS need God.
One of my college professors was nicknamed “Hard Hardy.” The man showed little or no emotion if kids were early or late to class. When he called on students to give answers, one would have thought, none were ever correct by the lack of emotion and response on his face as he listened. He was stoic and cold – until the air conditioner went awry. Then, you heard his frustration four classrooms away! He scared me to death.
He made it clear he did not believe in God. He was also brilliant, driven, focused and eventually surfaced to the position of top professor on the college faculty – with five impressive titles after his name.
He wore a wedding band; but, sorry to say, students would joke about what kind of a woman could possibly live or survive with Mr. Frozen as a husband.
The truth is, REDS do feel emotions, but are usually so controlled, poised and preoccupied that seldom do they show them on the surface. Sadly, they have obvious anger problems that DO show.
I am half RED. I recognize this side of my temperament when I focus on an important task. For me, it truly is a singular focus. I concentrate on one undertaking at a time. I am quick to call it “being helpful” when I share my opinions with others. It is not that we REDS have no emotion. It’s that there is little time to express it – as we are motivated and driven to accomplish certain goals. REDS are so centered, they are not easily distracted. I pray over my short fuse!
Thankfully, my YELLOW temperament buffers my terse RED. Because of that, rarely, do I find myself ignoring anyone.
At the risk of identifying REDS as completely hopeless, in the warm fuzzy department, they sometimes appear to need people. However, it is usually to further their own agendas. REDS don’t need people in the same sense many others do.
YELLOWS love and need people. BLUES value people. GREENS are nice to people. Thankfully, half REDS are mellowed by being a combination of two temperaments.
An example of pure RED, without God in his life, might have been Hard Hardy. Students were convinced there was nothing redeemable in him.
However, an example of a RED turned over to Jesus Christ is Billy Graham!
RED temperaments accomplish phenomenal feats, but without God balancing their temperament, they step on whoever might get in their way-on their way to the top.
Young REDS have a definite advantage over seasoned REDS– they can intercept the negatives of this temperament at a young age.
One of my granddaughters asked me, on the way home from school the other day,” Is the reason I get mad so easily because I’m a RED temperament?”
I smiled, “Maybe, but remember, you are only half RED and you can ask God for help – each and every time you start to get mad about something.” I continued, “The best thing about turning ALL our temperaments over to Jesus is He can balance our negative parts and keep us from losing control when we get upset!”
The Bible says, “Every promise of God proves true; he protects everyone who runs to him for help.” Proverbs 30:5
“Slowness to anger makes for deep understanding; a quick-tempered person stockpiles stupidity.” Proverbs 14:29
Of the four temperaments, I am tempted to say REDS need God the most…until I start examining the other three.
For the life of me, I don’t understand how ANY of the temperaments can successfully make it through life without Almighty God’s help! He truly takes our negatives and balances them, resulting in exactly how He intended us to be in the first place.
“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.”
Psalm 139:13-17 The Message
