Every day, a different Bible verse comes across my computer. Today’s ‘verse for the day’ is “Oh, Lord God! You Yourself made the heavens and earth by Your great power and with Your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!” Jeremiah 32:17
I need to write this verse on the walls of our house. It is very easy to forget. Life is full of ups and downs. Have you noticed? Hello! I am in the middle of some right now.
This summer we are privileged to be going to a nephew’s wedding and friends’ baby showers. These are definitely in the ups category!
I hate to admit, the downs are far more prevalent the older we become. We have friends changing addresses to heaven. Other friends are sick and many with aches and pains we would rather not talk about. We have friends going through extremely difficult trials…very close to home.
In these situations, each of us has the choice whether or not to believe in prayer!
I am a believer in prayer. I suppose it all started when I was 5, 6, 7, and 8. I made the decision to follow Jesus – more than once, I’m afraid! My mom set me straight. She explained I only had to make the decision once – and mean it.
Prayer comes along with the Christian life; but, I know so many Christians who don’t know the power of prayer. I must admit this shocks me. Not one day goes by without me witnessing God answering my prayers!
AND our Heavenly Father wants to hear from us! The Bible is so full of promises having to do with prayer! II Samuel 24:25b, “God was moved by the prayers and that was the end of the disaster.”(MSG)
There are over 500 references to answered prayer in the Bible! God truly wants to hear from us! And, He loves answering our prayers.
Read the following verses from Matthew 6:9-13: (The Message)
“The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:
‘Our Father in heaven, reveal who you are. Set the world right; do what’s best— as above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You’re in charge! You can do anything you want! You’re ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes.’”
Prayer is the one single mechanism that gets us into the presence of Almighty God! True, He already sees and knows everything about us; so, a lot of believers tend NOT to take this prayer thing seriously.
Let me say this another way: When our kids were little, I knew everything about them. I figured they loved me. Yet, I desperately wanted to hear it from them.
I knew, ahead of time, what I would or would not let them do. However, they still had to ask me and acknowledge that I was the parent.
I also made some decisions about their lives with which they didn’t agree; but, again, I knew what was best. Their momentary pain was necessary to insure they would grow up into strong, independent adults.
Yep, I can clearly remember plenty of times I wasn’t a popular parent. However, I knew what was best for them. (They can remember too!) They have thanked me a hundred times over. God simply knows what is best for His kids.
No one loves us more than our Heavenly Father.
Not a parent. Not a child. Not a spouse. Not a BFF.
He knows what is best for each one of us. Let’s talk to Him today – and more often – and, watch His promises unfold!
You might be surprised!
Most verses in my blog are from The Message. This is a great rendering of scripture- and easy to read and understand –especially for children!
