God is Always Here – Protecting Us!

Recently, I was awakened in the middle of the night by an alarming sound. I clearly heard the side door of the downstairs garage open and close with tremendous intention. I glanced at the clock next to my bed upstairs – 3:30 a.m.

Alarm-clock_001

I was alone in our house. My husband is working nights right now. I knew the garage door had been left unlocked.

My first thought was to quickly dive under the bed; but, we have a platform bed with no ‘underneath’ available. So, I immediately reverted to plan B.

I began talking aloud to the Lord, “Lord, I trust You completely. I know You are going to keep me safe. Please help me in case some nut is trying to break into our house.” I got louder as I walked toward the stair landing, “Get the police here right away. (I hadn’t called anyone yet.) The police should be here any minute now. Thank you, Lord.” I almost shouted.

Duane called up the stairway, “Kathleen I hope you didn’t call the police, it’s just me.”

Wow – unexpected relief.

Duane had gotten off early from work and hadn’t called; because, he hadn’t wanted to wake me up. I was trembling, for the next 20 minutes, while we discussed a strategy just in case this early off happened again.

The new plan is he will text my phone, telling me he is on his way home. That way, in case I’m awakened by a strange break-in sound, I can check my phone first – THEN, call 911.

He wasn’t sure the praying aloud should be my first reaction.

WAIT! Why not?

There are so many scriptures assuring us of God’s presence, when we belong to Him. I’m truly not worried about being alone at night, even though this particular night gave me a slight surprise. One of my favorite verses is, “for God hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5.

Our granddaughters heard this story and asked what verses I think of when I’m worried about something. How special it was to hand them the same list of scriptures my mom handed me many years ago! Mom had been alone for 18 years after Dad went to heaven.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deut. 31:6

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deut. 31:8

“As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Joshua 1:5

“God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:3

“For the Lord your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you.” Deut 23:14

“But let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.” Ps. 5:11

“May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.” Ps. 20:1

Feel free to use my mom’s list or pass it on! Great promises from a GREAT God!
