You know those times you see or read something that unexpectedly takes your breath away?
I’ll admit, it has been a stressful couple of months.
I have no idea where my thought process was headed this morning; but, when I read today’s Bible verse of the day www.biblegateway.com as it popped up on my computer screen, I felt like the weight of the world was lifted from my life – literally!
“O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.” Ps.86:5
I read it again.
I am certain I’ve read this verse before. After all, it is in the Psalms and, at some point in my Sunday School past, Psalms was required reading! I probably have a “completed Psalms” badge somewhere in some bottom drawer.
God has unfailing love for all who ask for His help!
In December we desperately asked God for help when our son-in-law was in a serious accident. God performed miracles and Bob is on the road to complete healing. (Thank you for your prayers!)
I know I have prayed for help many times in my life.
However, this morning, the “so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help” words jumped out at me as if for the first time ever.
As a young person, I wondered why God asks us to read His Word over and over and over as we live life. Maybe, I’m the only one who was wondering that. After all, once you know all the Bible stories and read the book through a few times, why is it necessary to keep re-reading?
Now I know why! We miss so much the first time around. And the second.
God’s Word is uniquely different from every other book. It is actually ALIVE and life-giving, life-saving- transformational and eternal. It shows up to rescue us when we least expect it. For centuries, people have tried to destroy or invalidate it – unsuccessfully!
For those of you who possibly never have heard this before, it may sound suspiciously eerie. A book that is ALIVE? Well, it is true. The Bible is supernatural. And God wants to speak to us through it. I dare you to test it and see for yourself.
Go ahead. Find a Bible. Start with a short prayer asking God to prove Himself to you. Then, open it to a book called JOHN. Start in chapter 3, verse 16.
(Obviously Psalms 86:5 is a great place to begin to read also.)
The creator of heaven and earth wants to talk to us.
The God of the universe wants us to ask Him for help!
God loves us so much – no matter what we have done in this lifetime – no matter how bad we have been – no matter what path we have been on- or who was elected president. God loves us and He wants to forgive us and help us through whatever. AND, His love is UNFAILING to those who simply ASK FOR HELP!
This morning is a perfect example of how easy it is to forget extremely important- excruciatingly vital- life-altering truths that can literally save our lives! I needed to be reminded.
What a great way to start my day!
“God, I put myself in your hands! You’re well-known as good and forgiving, bighearted to all… who ask for help.”(The Message)
